We here at bo-mar believe that our employees are our most important asset. Their knowledge and experience is the key to our success and we are grateful for the talents that they bring to bo-mar. We realize that behind every employee is an interesting story of how they came to us, why they’re doing what they’re doing, and how they like to spend their time – on and off the clock.

We welcome you to get to know us a little better!

Employee: Jim Blickensderfer

Current Position: Welder

Time at bo-mar: 23 years next month!

Current City:  Avon, Indiana

Hometown: Born in Rushville, but Indy has been home since he was 2

How did you get to Bo-Mar?

A friend knew Bob and said that Bob was always looking for talented welders. Bob always tells the story of the employee that started and at the end of the day asked “should I come back tomorrow?” That was me. But as I recall, I asked at the end of the week if I should come back on Monday. But the way Bob tells it is fine. (Jim is laughing as he’s telling the story.)

What’s your favorite thing to do in Indy?

The ‘500’ mile race. I’ve been to every race since 1952, except for 3 races. I missed it in 1969 when I was serving our country in Vietnam. My date to leave for home was scheduled for race day and I thought, “If I get home early enough, maybe I can still make it out there.” Well, some things got backed up as they tend to do, and my date to leave got pushed back. I came home 4 or 5 days after the race, but I got to hear some of it on the radio when I was there in Vietnam.

What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on here at bo-mar?

The wayfinding signs we did as part of Project 100 at the Speedway. Because they were a part of the Speedway.

What’s a hidden talent that you have?

I have a commercial pilot’s license.

What’s the best vacation you’ve taken?

Hawaii, especially Maui. My wife and I have gone twice – in 1996 to celebrate our 25th anniversary and again a few years later in 2000.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your wife?

Her name is Joyce. She worked as a controller at a local lumber company for years and retired a few years ago. We’ve been married for 45 years now, and we have 2 daughters. I love her very much.
